About

The Hip And The Square

Taken from the name of the short-lived column written by Norman Mailer for the Village Voice.

As someone who has the attention span of a gnat, the hip and the square has remained an unceasing area of interest.

On the surface it’s superficial but on the flipside in our post-modern, ironic age there’s still much to be learned from looking at the value judgements and delving into the processes behind them.

Whether such analysis will happen here remains to be seen. The real beauty is that what’s hip to me might be square to you. So get in touch, let me know what you think – I don’t want this to be a solo effort.

Me, me, me

Me? I’m a twenty-something Londoner. Currently running the news website for a British broadcaster but other projects are around the corner. I’m also the host of Gonzo, a salon for hot young talent in British journalism.

I remain a hack at heart – I’ve written for publications including The Guardian, The Observer, The New Statesman, Press Gazette, Rolling Stone Italy, The Independent and many more.

It’s a bit ridiculous isn’t it?  I’m officially a blogamist (and there are more of my blogs out there, just can’t remember what they were called). I would delete them all but I like keeping track of all the mad stuff that struck me as being worthy of being shared with a wider audience.
